Project: Canal Clean-Up 2015 and other ‘Go Green’ Activities

MADCOS schools care about their environment and regularly get involved in local improvements. The MADCOS Go Green Group meets regularly to organise different events and activities and to support each other in developing projects within their own schools.

Each year schools take part in a canal clean-up event with sponsorship from Keep Britain Tidy and our local Parish Councils and support from the Canal and Rivers Trust. This year’s event took place on Monday 14th September. As well as learning about canal safety and even getting a ride on a canal boat, the children clean a 9k section of the canal all the way from Aintree to Lydiate. You can see pictures from this year’s event below.

Through our involvement with Maghull In Bloom (MIB) MADCOS schools contribute to that organisation’s success in the Britain In Bloom annual competitions. A winning place in in the MIB Garden Competition is highly sought after. ¬†In 2015 it was won by St Gregory’s Primary School.

Many schools regularly participate in MAD WaBBIT Day on 20th May each year. This is the day when children and staff are encouraged to ‘Walk, Bike or Bus It” to school instead of getting there by car. Your child might well have a collection of badges from this annual event!

A number of schools are Green Flag holders or have won awards for their involvement in ECO activities.
