Project: Maghull In Bloom Garden Competition July 2015
The annual garden competition organised jointly by MADCOS and Maghull In Bloom (MIB) took place on Wednesday 15th July. The judges went from school to school, talking to budding young gardeners and staff and scrutinising outdoor areas to decide who would be the winner of this year’s competition. The judges were especially pleased to see signs which showed the schools supporting the MIB Fruit Meadows project (see first picture below).
It was apparent that all the schools are using their grounds imaginatively and extensively to support the education of the children in their care. The judges saw: orchards, raised beds, composting, forest school areas, woodland walks, twigloos, bug hotels, polytunnels and much, much more!
This year, St Gregory’s were delighted to be pronounced winners of the competition. They received a gardening voucher for £50 as well as a trophy. St Thomas’s were worthy runners up, receiving a voucher for £25. Past winners have included Maghull High, Aintree Davenhill, Melling, Holy Rosary and Maricourt. Congratulations go to all the schools for taking part and for encouraging their children to “grow their own”!
